Health Care Reform
Confused by the recent Health Care Reform changes? If so, you''re not alone. Every American will be impacted by the changes: coverage mandates, tax increases.
Questions abound. When will the changes take affect? How will my business be affected? Will I have to provide coverage for my employees? What are the penalties if I don''t provide health care coverage for my employees? How much will health insurance cost? These are just a few of the questions that are being asked. The following additional resources answer some of the above questions and provide a time line for implementation of the changes.
Does your business qualify for the small business tax credit? This new small business tax credit is available to employers with fewer than 25 full-time equivalent employees who pay at least 50 percent of the employee’s medical premium. The tax credit is limited to employers who have an average payroll of $50,000 per employee, excluding the owner and family members. Smaller employers—those with 10 or fewer full-time equivalent employees—who pay annual average wages of $25,000 or less may receive the maximum credit of 35 percent. In 2014, the maximum credit for small businesses will increase to 50 percent of premiums paid.
